Donna Shirey, CGR, CAPS, CGP, and president of Shirey Contracting in Issaquah, Wash. was appointed the 2010 chairman of the NAHB Remodelers last month during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

As chair of the leading professional organization for residential remodeling, Shirey represents the more than 14,000 remodeling industry members of NAHB.

“It is an honor for me to represent the interests of my colleagues and lead the top industry association for professional remodelers,” said Shirey. “Our members are the best in the industry, providing their customers with more functional, innovative and beautiful places to live.”

Shirey has more than 30 years of remodeling industry experience. She is a past president of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and served as chairman of the board in 2007 for the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce.

Shirey has held leadership positions on national committees of NAHB and has continued to enhance her industry knowledge and credentials by earning professional designations, including Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and Certified Green Professional (CGP).

Shirey Contracting recently completed construction of their Zero Energy Idea House, which incorporates new green and energy-efficient features to minimize energy consumption and maximize home comfort. Shirey has been recognized with professional awards, including 2009 Green Remodeling Advocate of the Year. She has been featured in national publications in articles about remodeling and green building.

As the 2010 chairman, Shirey expects to represent remodelers as they prepare for implementation of a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulation that requires training and certification of contractors working in homes to minimize lead paint exposure.

She is also leading efforts on energy efficiency retrofit efforts for existing homes and expanding tax credits on home energy efficiency products.
